Acid Rain and Commercial Fishing
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper comparing an article on the
effects of acid rain with one on the environmental costs of commercial fishing. Neither of these
articles is written from the "tree hugger" perspective, but rather from a realization that active
pollution abatement is not always enough. The articles discuss long-term changes in soil fertility
that are now threatening New England deciduous forests and the failure of fish populations to
recover despite being given "rest" times. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Adding Alternative Fuel Cars to Lotus Rental Car's Fleet
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper discussing the state of alternative fuel choices in 2005 for the purpose of assessing the feasibility of Lotus Rental Car of adding alternative-fuel cars to its fleet. DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Isuzu, Mercury and Nissan all offer flex-fuel vehicles designed to operate on either gas or ethanol, or any combination. Prices are falling and are close to prices of those with standard fuel systems, and neither the customer nor the company needs to be concerned about what type of fuel is placed into the tank when the car is rented. Lotus certainly should seek negotiations on flex-fuel vehicles for its future purchases. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Addressing Research Problems in Transportation
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper
discussing the complexities of approaching a design for assessing the true environment effect
of transporting both people and products by auto or truck. The paper briefly discusses acid
rain and CO2 emissions, along with efforts to produce cleaner engines and cleaner fuels, with
efforts extending even to achieving driverless vehicles that have more uniform fuel usage.
Assessing full environmental cost includes beginning with placement of the roadway,
manufacture and use of the machinery used in construction, and other types of items. The
paper concludes that a linear programming approach can be beneficial for controlling for or
stripping out complicating variables. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Agent Orange: The Lingering Problems of Dioxins
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page overview of the history of Agent Orange, a carcinogenic defoliant used in Vietnam, and its relation to dioxins which still present an environmental and health threat in the U.S. in the form of industrial wastes emissions. Contends that while law are in place to regulate these emissions, they are largely ineffective and difficult to enforce. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Agent Orange; Is it Poisoning Johnston Island
[ send me this paper ]
This 14 page paper considers how this small atoll in the Pacific Ocean has acted as a dumping ground form many chemicals, and the effect that one in particular; Agent Orange, may have had on the flora and fauna of the area. The writer uses the limited direct evidence, and the more extensive indirect evidence to consider the current and potential damage that may be seen. The bibliography cites 15 sources.

Agricultural Biotechnology and the Middle East
[ send me this paper ]
This 18 page
report discusses agricultural biotechnology with a special focus
on the nations of the Middle East. Biotechnology is the name
given to a variety of agricultural, automated and industrial
technologies that make use of the natural operations or products
of biological, thus living, things. Agricultural biotechnology
offers the potential to address many problems that have had a
direct and limiting impact on crop and livestock production while
improving the availability of food for people throughout the
world. This report also addresses the issues associated with a
lack of policy associated with agricultural biotechnology and the
fact that such a lack can stand in the way of larger goals of
improved production and opportunity in developing nations of the
world. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Air Pollution
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page tutorial focuses on the topic of air pollution. Specific instructions provided by a student are followed to wage a persuasive argument. Statistics are utilized and charts are included. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
Filename: SA049Air.rtf
Air Pollution and Cancer
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the connection between air pollution and cancer. The author discusses specific air pollutant components such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, ozone, and nitrogen oxides in relation to their association with cancer. A brief review of the efforts which have been made to curb air pollution is also included. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
Filename: PPairCnc.rtf
Air Pollution and the Aviation Industry
[ send me this paper ]
This 9 page paper examines the problem of pollution from aircraft. The paper outlines what it is, how it is caused, the effect it has and the measures that have, or have not, been taken to reduce the problem. The bibliography cites 12 sources.

Air Pollution in China: Problems and Solutions
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page paper provides an overview of air pollution in China, and its devastating effects. Whether or not the nation is doing enough to resolve the problem, and protect future generations, is discussed. Effects on humans, and fetal health in particular, are examined. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Air Pollution In Mexico City
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Considered to be one of the world's most polluted cities, Mexico City has long experienced the detrimental impact of its overwhelming air pollution problem. The most prominent pollutant throughout the city is automobile exhaust, which still to this day maintains high concentration levels of lead from before gasoline went lead-free. Sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide present two additional pollutants hanging in the air over Mexico City, as well, proving "very difficult to control and are still very worrisome from the point of view of the health effects…because they penetrate deeply into the lungs" (Air Pollution: Mexico City). This inability to dissipate such toxic substances is due to the city's proximity; a synergistic combination of high altitude and abundant sunlight create an "ideal environment for these dangerous compounds to accumulate and linger" (Air Pollution: Mexico City), ultimately proving extraordinarily damaging to the ozone. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

AIR POLLUTION, FOREST FIRES AND ASIA
[ send me this paper ]
This 10-page paper discusses air pollution in Southeast Asia that is caused by forest fires. Focusing on the Indonesian fires of 1997, the essay demonstrates that such fire (and resulting pollution) could have been avoided, and that governments and private industry did not act responsibly in either preventing the crisis or solving it. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Air Pollution/Cause and Effect
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page research paper/essay that examines the cause and effect relationship of industrialization and air pollution. The problems associated with air pollution in the contemporary era are attributed to human actions. In other words, there is a direct cause-and-effect situation at work wherein human societies engage in industrialization and the myriad side effects of this industrialization results in polluting the air and the environment. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Air pollution: Problems and Solutions
[ send me this paper ]
This 16 page paper addresses a variety of aspects of air pollution. Beginning with basic definitions, air pollution is clearly defined and various types of pollution are explored. Both indoor and outdoor pollution are discussed as significant problems. Causes are also addressed, including both human and natural varieties. The problems of cattle, lightening and volcanoes are noted as causes. Next, the exact effects of pollution are explained, inclusive of some documentation that poor air quality can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The idea that air pollution is worse in the undeveloped world is highlighted and it is concluded that perhaps an economic or political solution will ultimately help to clean up the air. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
