A 7 page paper. Geoffrey de Havilland and his company, the De Havilland Aircraft Company, revolutionized the aircraft and air travel industries. De Havilland introduced the very first commercial jet aircraft in 1952, well ahead of any competitor. Tragically, one year later, one of the Comet jets crashed and months after this, two more crashed. The planes literally broke apart in the air. This essay reports the history of the Comet, the accidents, the Court of Inquiry, the findings of metal fatigue and why the fatigue happened and the aftermath for the De Havilland Aircraft Company.
