The influence of Religon on Sex Roles in the Muslim
Culture.
[ send me this paper ]
(6 pp) In addition to western thought and
education there are three other areas that
influence the life of a Muslim. According to
Hussain (2000), they are: the Islamic scriptures
--Quran and Hadith as interpreted b Ulamas,
Mullahs, Muftis and Maulavis, and communicated
through Madrasahs and Mosques, and administered
through the Islamic state wherever there is one.
The second is Tasawwuf (Islamic mysticism),which
seeks truth through personal religious experience
and not through the scriptures and is espoused by
the Sufis (religious mystics). And the third is
Adab (a concept broadly meaning art and literature)
as a sub-culture of broad-minded and urbane
people of high learning and literary tastes.Poets,
writers and artists are its communicators. Among
Indian Muslims the medium of Adab was Persian. Now
it is Urdu. Because of this orientation, looking
at the influence of religion on the sex roles
between men and women is not as simple within the
Muslim culture as it might initially seem.

The Sexual Revolution of the 1920s
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page contention that the 1920s did indeed spawn a sexual revolution. The industrialization which would overtake the U.S. in this time period would impact us in some very astounding ways. One of these ways was the advent of the sexual revolution, a revolution in which the mores and social behavior of the newly-named “flapper” would usurp those of the traditional American housewife. The flapper would come to epitomize the liberation of American women from the rigidly-defined patriarchal system which had kept them and their female ancestors bound practically since the beginning of mankind’s reign on earth. Women as Agents of Morality
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of whether or not women act as agents of morality. Contends that women are not only moral they are often agents of morality, instigating moral standards and codes on a largely patriarchal society which without them might not have such positive norms. Emphasizes, however, that history has more frequently denounced women as agents of morality rather than acknowledge them as such. The reasons for this denouncement lies in the fact that women often take a stance on morality which differs considerably from that of men. Uses the work of feminist author Adrienne Rich to illustrate the fact that what some think is moral others denounce as immoral. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
